a MIDI clip contains digital on/off messages saying, “hey computer instrument, play these notes at this time please.” It can also contain fairly detailed information about how to play said notes: loud or quiet, dark or bright, or perhaps with or without vibrato. Think of MIDI clips as a sort of computerized player piano.
Unlike an audio clip, which contains an actual recording of digitized sound data, a MIDI Clip contains MIDI notes.
